Requirements
First requirement for tracking a mobile phone is knowing its IMEI code. The IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity] number of a mobile phone is a 15 digit number unique to a mobile handset. Just key in *#06# on your mobile phone and it will display the IMEI number in most cases. You must have it noted down safely. It is also found printed on the compliance plate of the handset, usually under the battery. And these days you can find it written on the bill when you purchase the handset or printed on the box containing it.
Then you must be aware of the manufacturing company whose mobile you are using, along with the handset model number. If you say it is Nokia, for example, and you do not know the exact model number of the mobile, then it becomes a bit difficult for people to track it down.
Last, but in no way least, you should have patience - don't panic, tracking a cell phone may take a few days to even a few months.
We have two methods: you can either track down your cell phone virtually (by going online) or physically (by lodging a FIR).
Tracking a Mobile Phone Virtually
Step 1: You have to go to a site named http://www.trackimei.com Towards the top of the home page, you will find a link 'Report Theft'.
Step 2: As you click on it, a Theft Report form will come up where you can fill the details and then click on 'Submit'.

Now as these people will find any clue about your lost cell, they will contact you by a post at your home address.
Once your cell phone is found, you have to pay them charges for using this service. The prices may or may not seem high, actually that shall depend upon the type of cell phone. You may not want to use this service (to pay the charges that is to say) for finding a handset priced below four thousand or so; it is better to buy a new one.
Apart from this site, you will find many websites on Google that can help you find your lost cell in exchange of minimal charges.
